Is there really the difference between hand cream and face cream?

so how are they different? is it just something that the companies make up so that consumers would buy more products from them?

if there is a difference, is it big enough that we cant use hand cream for face or vice versa? Is there really the difference between hand cream and face cream?
no there is a difference between hand and face cream.

face creams are usually more moisturizing and made for the sensitive, delicate skin on your face whereas hand cream needs to be tougher because you use your hands so much! they go through alot and dry out alot faster so youd need a thicker cream. also there are alot of hand creams that are anti-aging etc. to help make your hands look younger because they age so quickly because of how much you use them

always use your face cream only for your face..they are more expensive and should be used for their purpose, not wasted on your hands. Is there really the difference between hand cream and face cream?
Hand lotion, like body lotion, is formulated to have a thicker consistency than face lotion. While it is true that both types of lotion are used to moisturize the skin, most people need a different level of moisturizing on the face than with the hands. This is because the facial area tends to contain sections that already exude a fair amount of natural oils. The thicker texture of hand lotion allows the product to more effectively treat the rough patches many people develop on knuckles and palms, since a residue will cling to the hands even after washing. By contrast, using this thicker lotion on the facial skin is likely to clog pores and create skin problems.

With face lotion, the idea is usually not only to moisturize but also to cleanse. Many creams and lotions that are formulated especially for the face will include cleansers that help to remove excess oil deposits from the pores of the skin. The result is that the face lotion is applied for a short time and then rinsed off the skin. Unlike hand lotion, there is no residue that continues to protect the face from the elements. Most people have enough natural oils to accomplish this task, and simply require face lotion to help augment the process. The difference is big enough that hand cream will clog pores and cause acne, but face cream won't. It's your face though, so if you don't want to spend the money, you don't have to. Good Luck! :)

I've wondered the same thing myself. Although I use a moisturizer on my face most of the time, if I run out I use hand lotion and my face hasn't fallen off yet.

I think that the only difference might be that hand lotion has more alcohol and water and fewer ';moisturizing ingredients'; (whatever they may be) in it.
no, they really are different! hand cream has the highest amount of oil and heavy emollients because we wash our hands up to 10 times as much as our face throughout the day. the extra oil protects our hands and cuticles against excessive drying.

most face creams now are oil free because our faces have a high concentration of oil and sweat glands, extra oil or will clog skin.

having said all of that, my grandmother used to use vaseline on her face and she had BEAUTIFUL skin. go figure!
hand creams has a thicker texture then face cream. if you used it on your face and have oily/acne prone skin, it could cause you to break out/clog your pores.
