How to cream ingredients with an electric mixer?

I know the basic definition of creaming butter and sugar in a cake recipe. I would like to know if that has to be done by hand or if it can be done with an electric mixer. If done by a mixer, what speed should the mixer be on?How to cream ingredients with an electric mixer?
You can do it either way, but the electric mixer is easier (although, I often use a big wooden spoon and an earthenware bowl for a change of pace). If you're using a hand-held electric mixer, use the medium speed until the ingredients are light and fluffy. A stand mixer has more power, and you can go a bit higher with the speed (just be sure to scrape down the bowl.)How to cream ingredients with an electric mixer?
Just turn it on medium to fast and watch what happens. It's not rocket science, so put the butter in there and just try it out. You'll figure out what speed to use.
Typically it is done by electric mixer and on medium to high speed. Start low so you don't fling sugar all over the kitchen and then increase the speed to incorporate a little air in it.
